Hello everyone,Well after 3 and a bit months here in Aspen the time has come for Matthew and I to move on. Although we are really excited about the rest of our trip, Aspen has been really good for us and goodbyes are always sad. During our last few days, Aspen has put on a spectacular show of snowy mountain peaks, rainy days and extremely cold conditions which has been pretty to the eye but soooo damn cold!
My last day of work was on Wednesday and the last few days have been pretty miserable for me as i have been battling the dreaded cold as well as trying to get everything organised before we leave tomorrow. Matty finished work on Tuesday which he was pretty happy about and the family he worked for got him a going away present which was a tee-shirt they thought suited him and a photo album with photo's of the 'boys' at the parties they have catered for throughout the summer.
During our time in Aspen we made heaps of new friends and hope to keep in touch with them as much as possible and hopefully some make it out to Oz one day to visit us. An awesome chick i met who i also worked with at Poppycocks was Madelyn. Mads decided to live in a Tee-Pee for the summer and we finally got to experience the tee pee lifestyle the other night. She prepared the wood frame herself from fallen trees she collected in the area and ordered the canvas from some shop on line. The tee pee was 14 feet in diameter which was the recommended size in order to have a camp fire inside. So we went to her Tee-Pee and ate fondue and smores around her camp fire and met some great people - it heaps of fun although i did smell like a camp fire for the next few days. (For those who don't know, smores are crackers with marshmallows and chocolate).
Another recent highlight was the Rugby Festival which is held every year in Aspen. Teams from around the state come here to play in a tournament and they take it pretty seriously. We went to the final between Denver and Aspen and heard heaps of Aussie, New Zealand and English accents around the place....mainly NZ's!!
So here are the last photo's of our time in Aspen. They are of where we have been working, the people we have been working with, more photo's of Aspen, the tee-pee party we went to and the rugby game. Oh and for my family, the two kids on the lawn are Cassidy and Brandon (Annie's kids).
So we leave tomorrow morning by rental car and head to Salt Lake City. I am not sure how much internet access we will have over the next few months but we have our laptop and a lot of motels in this country offer free intenet connection in their rooms, so we should be able to check our emails regularly.
Thanks for listening,
Bianca
